BIOFIN is a global partnership addressing the biodiversity finance challenge in a comprehensive manner. The Initiative provides an innovative methodology enabling countries to measure their current biodiversity expenditures, assess their financial needs in the medium term and identify the most suitable finance solutions to bridge their national biodiversity finance gaps.
Between 12- 14 April, high-level government representatives and delegations from more than 30 countries met in Los Cabos (Mexico) to participate in the Second BIOFIN Global Workshop. They had the opportunity to share lessons on biodiversity finance and collaborate with colleagues from around the world.
The Global Workshop had the following objectives:
- Facilitate experience sharing and technical discussions among countries
- Discuss the results from BIOFIN implementation to inform global fora and future programming
- Explore opportunities for biodiversity finance solutions/investments in BIOFIN countries
The event was opened by Mr. Rafael Pacchiano, Ministry of Environment of Mexico and had the participation of Ms. María Edita Tan, Vice Minister of Finance (Philippines), Mr Nik Sekhran, UNDP Global Director for Sustainable Development, Ms. Ladawan Kampa, Deputy Secretary General at the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (Thailand) and Luis Fallas, Vice Minister of Planning (Costa Rica), among others government representatives and officials from UNDP and partner organisations.
