The purpose of preparing this document is to supplement the initial PIR Report submitted earlier. The contents are divided into 4 Sections. Section 1 is an overview of the status and trend of coastal and marine ecosystems with specific focus on mangroves, coral reefs and seagrass. The section also provides information about the distribution of Protected Areas of various categories offering varying levels of protection as well as key institutions and their key functional roles. Section 2 discusses the sectoral practice underlying negative trends as well as the pressures and factors that contributes to the decline in the quality of coastal and marine environment. Section 3 follows with some information of factors underlying positive trends discussing crisis-turned-opportunities with pressures from the EU on Thailand in relation to the Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing (IUU), the enabling policy environment given by the NBSAP, the two new pieces of legislation namely the Royal Ordinance on Fisheries and the DMCR Act and the DMCR Road Map. The final section is a brief discussion of the coastal and marine sector based on the suggested guideline in the BIOFIN Workbook Manual and preliminary recommendations.
