At the CBD COP 13 in Mexico, the CBD and BIOFIN officially launch the CBD-UNDP Regional Technical Support Nodes on Financial Planning and Reporting.
During the CBD COP 13, BIOFIN launched the new 2016 BIOFIN Workbook and the CBD-BIOFIN Regional Nodes. The objective of the CBD-BIOFIN Regional Nodes is to provide technical support for financial planning and reporting to non-BIOFIN pilot countries based on the new 2016 BIOFIN Workbook methodology. This revised methodology includes all the improvement and lessons learnt from the BIOFIN countries and details the innovative, more efficient and result-based methodology applied in these countries to address the biodiversity financial gap. BIOFIN recognises 4 types of finance results that countries can pursue: (1) Delivering better, (2) Preventing Future Costs, (3) Mobilising Resources, and (4) Re-aligning Resources.
To this effect, a dedicated resource person will be available in each region to provide such technical support, based on the various approaches and tools assembled in the BIOFIN methodology. Support can be made available to all developing countries and countries with economies in transition that are not among the 30 core participating countries of BIOFIN.
Countries are encouraged to submit their informal expressions of interest for support at their earliest convenience to biofin@undp.org with a copy to secretariat@cbd.int.
