Hon Yen village in Vietnam is renowned not only for its majestic landscapes but also as home to vibrant coral reefs that are a haven for marine species. These reefs are the heartbeat of the ecosystem and the livelihood of the local community. As Hon Yen transitions toward sustainable ecotourism, traditional livelihoods like net weaving, fish sauce making, and cherry nurseries are becoming integral parts of the visitor experience.
In partnership with UNDP’s Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), and Phu Yen's Women Union, Hon Yen has developed a Community-based Ecotourism Cooperative that supports the creation of seven sustainable eco-tours. These tours offer tourists a unique glimpse into the local culture and traditions, integrating age-old crafts and practices. By participating in these activities, visitors help sustain these practices and support the artisans who keep them alive.
